Tina Fischl surprises in Madeira

Second place in the Santana Sky Race

What began as a sporting holiday ended in impressive success: Tina Fischl from WSV Otterskirchen took second place overall in the Madeira Sky Race. The 22-kilometer trail with an altitude difference of 1,800 meters demanded everything from the athletes – even experienced runners reached their limits.

The Fürstenstein native went into the race with no expectations – already having over 80 kilometers of running and hiking under her belt. Nevertheless, things went surprisingly well: she quickly caught up with the eventual winner, Carolina Vaz from Portugal, and kept pace with her until the highest point on the island, Pico Ruivo.

The second section of the course was particularly tough: technically demanding passages, steep stairs, slippery roots and sweltering heat. “I knew it would be a battle to the finish”, said Fischl. Nevertheless, she kept up the pace and secured second place ahead of Emily Westheimer from the US with a strong final sprint.

In addition to the athletic performance, the scenery was also impressive: narrow paths through lush, almost jungle-like vegetation made the race a real nature experience.

“I am incredibly proud that I was able to keep up with such strong competition”, summarized the personal trainer. Her success underlines that with passion, mental strength, and spontaneity, top performances can be achieved even under difficult conditions.

Fischl is already planning her next challenges – and is sure to continue surprising us with her athletic achievements in the future.
